The director of the movie "Paprika", Satoshi Kon, died recently. The movie seems to be well regarded by the New York Times.
"Lebanon" warrants a closer look, too.
I picked up the book "Cognitive Surplus : Creativity and Generosity in a Connected Age" at the local bookstore and leafed through a couple of chapters. It seemed interesting, but the hardcover prices were forbidding. Looks like I need to wait for it to get cheaper.
Related to the above is "The Shallows : What the Internet is doing to our brains". I didn't get to peruse it yet, though.
I read an interesting paper on Visceral-Locomotory Pistoning in Crawling Caterpillars. Essentially a caterpillar is a 2 body system where its hind pushes its inner guts forward, and then the other rest of the body catches up to the inside being pistoned forward. Very interesting, indeed. Youtube video.... And those things become butterflies!
