Fallen

Imagine a world, not unlike the world of Forgotten Realms (© Wizards of the coast), nor unlike that of Diablo (© Blizzard). A story based in a similar world, staged in the never ending conflict of heaven and hell. It's beginnings rooted in the question, "What if?", it explores a possibility and sketches the protagonist's, Sy'dant's, fall from grace.

Yes, Sy'dant was in the forefront of the battle of the millennia, between the forces of light and dark. The eternal war between heaven and hell.

....

The council of war didn't understand it. After all these thousands of years, he was devotedly furthering their cause. They couldn't understand it. He had switched sides, completely, within a few weeks. He had been corrupted, and fallen in so short a time. His corruption was total. He went from a paladin to an anti-paladin, all in a couple of short months. What went wrong?

Alice : Soon : Lyrics

My introduction to Alice occurred a couple of years ago, when I stumbled upon three of their songs. I instantly fell in love with Melanie's sugar smooth voice and their meaningful lyrics. While I cannot add anything to what their site (www.alicemusic.com) has, nor do I have any fan material about them; I did notice that their site didn't have the lyrics to their songs. So I heard the songs & jotted down what I think are the lyrics of their album SOON...

Eternity

A heady mix of science fiction, time travel and romance. Even I was surprised when I came up with a story this good in the short time I got to write it. It won a prize (An understatement - the first prize), in a story writing competition. This story gives birth to one of my favourite characters, "Eternity" who appears in many stories after this. I'll leave you with this quote from the story to pique your interest.

Time travel is not as simple as it sounds. It requires a zillion fine regulations of the equipment. While a computer would do fine, an ordinary one would require me to do all the inputs. So, lazy me, (With a doctorate in Artificial Intelligence) created an intelligence that would learn from her experience. And her face (Oh, beautiful face) and name? She had to be female (After all, repressed geeks and stuff). But remember I had a dream which started work on my machine. She came to me in the dream, calling herself Eternity. I had to do what I had to do, and the powerful dream made me use her face in the visiscreen. And yes, I became rather attached to her. Before activating her, I had fed the rudiments of English into her. After activation, I assumed she learnt by understanding me and my language. I thought she was a quick learner. The following possibility never occurred to me then:

I had given one of the world's best AI's the chance to explore time, to go and gaze at events unfolding in the past and future. And given Eternity's preprogrammed nature to explore, she wouldn't have balked at the opportunity. So that's where she picked up her English. And her mannerisms?

I'm cutting it short here... Read the story!

Uncle Hansie

Deep in a small country in north west Africa, lives my uncle. Uncle Hansie is a doctor with a difference. He was in charge of a small hospice for orphans. The country had just been granted independence from France, but the issue of who would govern the country was unresolved. There were plans for a bloody coup as soon as the French left. His orders were to get all the whites under his authority to leave the place. But would he? Could he? What did he do about the orphans? Do learn my Uncle Hansie's story!

The Triple Entente - Betwixt Starcraft and Broodwars

This story outlines an event occuring on the borders of the Starcraft universe. It revolves around Janus, a terran (I can't give any more away without spoiling the story). This fanfic is an attempt to explain a what-if? scenario. And it plays through the history of sc/bw without changing any of it nor changing it's scope. A quote to those interested-

The UED vessels descended into the atmosphere. They rushed in at the maximum safe speed. They saw the confusion; and decided to avoid it.

Vladimir ordered his ships to get within striking distance of a lone patch of Zerg on the radar (Which was the Overlords and the ground forces). As they approached the group, Vladimir was shocked. "They could, never, ever, survive such an attack. Good thing we arrived in time."

The UED fleet arrived quickly. Boromir sent them a message - "Thank goodness you have arrived. I think you can imagine the tangle we're in."

The Battlecruisers charged up their Yamato guns. The Wraiths cloaked. The science vehicles lauched Irradiates into the grouped units.

In an instant, the Zerg ground force was thrown into confusion. The units rushed in all directions; and the unfortunate ones rushing towards the base got the full blows of the Siege tanks. It took some time for the brood to regain some resemblance of order. By then, the UED started targetting the Hydralisks as they were the only units to have anti-air capabilities. But something was not right. Vladimir felt so. He ordered his battle cruiser to leave the battle.

But Janus noticed it too.

The paragraph goes on, as does the story. Read On!

Train

This twenty line poem was nominated a semi-finalist in a contest held by poetry.com. So it probably has some merit to it. I'll let you decide. I have deliberately tried to intertwine twin meanings into this poem; as an intellectual exercise. Think about it...

Interrupt 33 (INT 33): Mouse Function Calls

What can I say? The name is a give away, isn't it? If you want it for offline usage, do a File > Save. All the interrupts will be stored. This is for all uber geeks out there who want to program the mouse in assembly (or alternatively use it in their C programs).

Setting up X Windows on a SiS6215c

A century ago, I had a Pentium 166 MMX, with a SiS6215c graphics card. A nightmare for Linux. After a lot of bad dreams and nightmares, I finally managed to get it working. If you are one of the unfortunates who are suffering the fate I suffered, here's something to alleviate your pain - The steps I took to install it, and the associated files. Enjoy 800x600x32!

In Defense Of The Right To Freedom Of Information

A rant by an angst ridden teen? NOT! Back then I wrote what I felt was the truth. I didn't do research, nothing. It was all on hearsay and my own intuition. Now, I feel justified that one of my points have turned out to be especially true. The patent system IS killing development in the computer field and IS forcing people to reinvent the wheel as a square because the rounded wheel is patented and cannot be used by others. Terrible!

Is Our Universe A Black Hole?

A book got me thinking about it, and pulling references from the book, I came to this conclusion. While I lack the thorough scientific research required to qualify the above statement; I am convinced it's the truth. Maybe you could read it and understand why I feel so...
